Sabiha Gokcen International Airport

In 2007, the Turkish government privatized the Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SGIA) and awarded a 20-year concession to modernize and expand the capacity of the airport.  The Project scope included the development of a new terminal expansion, associated utility infrastructure, new roadway system, and other ancillary facilities.  The Project created operational efficiencies, provided increase levels of service, expanded employment opportunities, and created a modern transportation facility that will attract business investment and enhance tourism.   SGIA Partners is a consortium comprised of GMR Industries, Limak, and Malaysia Airports.

MAR’S Role

MAR Development Corp. (MAR) was hired to provide strategic business planning; engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) support; and management consulting services to the newly formed Consortium – SGIA Partners. In this capacity, MAR reviewed the Consortiums obligations under the concession agreement with the Government of Turkey, and provided recommendations on organizational structure, policies, procedures, methods of execution and contracting for the US$700 million expansion program.  Strategies for developing and implementing the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) scope were developed and recommended to SGIA.
