Project Description

The Seminole Tribe of Florida (Seminole Tribe) wished to develop a +30,000 sq. ft. mixed-use shopping center for their Tribal members on their Big Cypress reservation in Clewiston, Florida.  The Seminole Big Cypress reservation borders the Florida Everglades National Park and for the Big Cypress residents, the closest grocery store, bank, auto service, or other daily required services are over 33 miles away.  The first phase of the Project was to provide design and engineering services (including concept design and construction documents) for the Project, with the Second Phase being Project / Construction Management services.

MAR’S Role

For the first phase, MAR developed a conceptual design that aligned with the Seminole Tribes cultural heritage while providing a viable business venture.  The design included an anchor grocery store, bank, and gas station with auto service bays, café areas, outdoor seating areas, and available retail units for local Tribal merchants.  MAR advanced the Project to preliminary design.
